It’s beginning to look a lot like Springtime…

March 21, 2015

Today, for no explicable reason, I found myself whistling to the tune of “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”…but in my head, I was thinking, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Springtime!” because it just fits so perfectly with the tune. Also, today is the first FULL day of spring, and the signs of it are basically everywhere:

  1. The sun is shining, so I made my annual discovery that I lost last year’s sunglasses!
  2. It’s warm {for Spokane} outside
  3. Our lawn is turning green
  4. Flowers are starting to sprout at my parents’ house (!!!)
  5. I feel an overwhelming desire to wear COLOR, so…
  6. …I moved my heavy winter clothes out of my closet and brought in some of the summery ones
  7. The grocery store has Easter candy

I could go on and on, but instead I’ll share some photographic evidence of springtime at our house…it seriously just makes me smile and smile, if you can’t tell already.

The April Real Simple has arrived (and, in true form, Denali won’t let us read it)

Running errands = driving around in the sunshine

The dining room table is loving the pastel ranunculus I found at the grocery store…

…and the meal jar found some bright  springy buds too!

We said “see you later” to all the winter candles and “hello” to a garden party (similar)…

…and I’m pretty excited about some springy pastel additions to my closet!

Spring is here when you smell that earthy after-the-rain smell which only is experienced when the ground has warmed up from winter frost. Baseball and track are in full swing – those beautiful days and even the not so beautiful days force us back outside. And last – throwing the ball for the dog without bundling up! While not my favorite season – it is the entree into glorious summer!

Oh, I know exactly which smell you’re talking about! It totally smelled like that at your house when I was there last week…heaven. Spring has never been my favorite season, but it’s starting to grow on me!

I suffered for a long time with vernal angst. It was when I taught primarily Seniors and realized they were graduating. Spring used to be my least favorite time of year.

Bruce, I too have felt that pain. It’s just the worst, isn’t it? That is probably the best part of teaching those sophomores of ours — they are WAY too far away from graduation to cause us vernal angst!
